Why is lighting important for photography?

Have you seen photographers talk about good lighting and bad lighting? Why do you think it is important? Why can’t we just take a picture in dark?

Well, here is a list of reasons why light is important for a good photography session:

Follow it and remember to ask for all of it from your photographer-

Effects of good or bad lighting on your pictures

Dark and light pictures can cause your camera to create overexposed and underexposed pictures.

By noticing the light, the photographer could have adjusted it’s camera to click a light picture.

Use of light in photography

In photography, sometimes you can adjust the object for a good light picture or adjust your camera for a lighter picture.

Side lighting, or placing the light source or the subject so that the light hits from the side, fights the boring look of front lighting by creating shadows and depth.

Quality of light

Whether you are working in your studio or outside, one thing that will always matter is the quality of the light.

The light of your pictures can also determine the mood of the images: Dark versus soft light.

Three qualities of light

Intensity– The intensity of light is the amount reflected by the performer and the background.

Color: The color of the light reflected by the performer and the background.

Direction– The direction or the angle of the light helps determine the location and length of the shadow cast by the object and other three dimensional props around him.

Light fixtures provide a path for electricity to power a light bulb and our fixtures allow for visual activity day or night, create a mood, and even provide safety in otherwise hard-to-see environments.

Characteristics of light

The three most important characteristics of light are

Brightness

Color

Temperature

Brightness might not need that much explanation because we all are familiar with the concept but color and temperature are subtle and difficult to get.

Light is electromagnetic radiation visible to human eye.

Natural Light and Fill Light

Natural Light In Photography

Pay attention to the concept of light more if you want to improve your photography skills because it is one of those single most important things.

Three factors influence the light in photography natural light renders a subject, time of day, camera direction and weather.

Fill light is form of supplementary light mainly used to lighten shadows in an image.

Fill light is often used in portrait photography to create a contrast between the image subject and image background giving the scene a sense of depth despite the final product being 2 dimensional.

Light is a key factor in creating a great portfolio. If you want a good photography session make sure your photographer knows all about the light that you will need to get the best shots of the day.
